Romantic dinner and a private movie in Koramangala

The simplest date in Bangalore that still feels like an occasion is dinner at a table you can talk across, then a film in a room booked only for the two of you. Both halves sit within a few minutes of each other in Koramangala 5th Block, where we run nine private theatres on Jyothi Nivas College Road.

Here are five restaurants for a romantic dinner around Koramangala, how to time the evening around a 3-hour slot, and what the whole thing costs. Restaurant prices and travel times are approximate, so check the current ones when you book.

Five places for dinner before the film

Chianti, Koramangala 5th Block

Italian, and the closest of these to us: both are in 5th Block, a few minutes away. The room is quiet enough for a two-person conversation, and pasta and pizza at an unhurried pace is an easy pick if neither of you wants to think hard about dinner. Cost: about Rs 2,300 for two (approximate). Book a table at the weekend.

Truffles, Koramangala 5th Block

A busy burger and pasta place a short walk from Chianti. It is casual rather than candlelit, it gets busy, and it is the one to choose when you would rather spend the budget on the room than the table. Cost: about Rs 1,200 for two (approximate). Expect a wait on Friday and Saturday evenings.

Dyu Art Cafe, Koramangala 8th Block

A cafe in an old bungalow with a courtyard and art on the walls, running since 2013. Better for an early dinner or a long coffee than a late one, and better on a weekday, because weekend waits are real. Cost: cafe prices (check the current menu). Confirm the closing time before you plan a late sitting.

Glen's Bakehouse, Koramangala

Not a dinner spot, a dessert stop, and a useful one: it is a bakery near the Sony World junction where you can pick up a cake on the way to us. You can bring your own cake into the theatre, so this is the easiest way to turn a normal evening into a small occasion. Cost: bakery prices (approximate).

Olive Beach, Ashok Nagar

Mediterranean food on Wood Street, off Richmond Road, roughly 6 to 8 km from Koramangala and usually 20 to 40 minutes by cab (approximate). It is the dressier option on this list, and the one to pick when you want the meal to be the main event and the film to be the wind-down. Book ahead.

Then a private movie at Rosae

We are at 67 Jyothi Nivas College Road, Koramangala 5th Block, open from 10 AM to 1 AM. Each room is booked only for your group for the full 3-hour slot, and there are no cameras inside the theatre rooms.

DREAM is our couple seats theatre, with two recliners side by side. INFINITY is our most premium private theatre for couples. Prices include GST and stay the same in every slot and on every day of the week, so a 7 PM Saturday slot costs what a Tuesday morning costs.

Food at Rosae comes from our kitchen

Outside food is not allowed, so do not carry your dinner in. Scan the QR code in your theatre, order from the menu, and we bring the food to your theatre door. Your own cake is allowed, which is why the bakery stop above is worth the ten-minute detour. Alcohol is not allowed at Rosae.

Timing the evening

Two orders work, and the one you pick depends on how hungry you are at 7 PM.

Dinner first, film after. Eat at 6:30 or 7 PM, pay by about 9:30, and take the 10 PM to 1 AM slot. Roads around 5th Block are easier late, parking is less of a gamble, and you are not watching the clock through dessert.

Film first, dinner after. Take the 4 to 7 PM slot, walk out at 7 and eat at 7:30. This suits Dyu Art Cafe and anywhere that stops seating early, and it means you arrive at dinner with something to talk about.

Either way, get here about 15 minutes before your slot starts. If you have uploaded ID proof and paid the balance online, show your booking QR code and walk in. If you have not, reception checks your ID and uploads a photo for you, which takes a few minutes more. If you are held up, you can still check in any time inside your three hours, but the slot ends at the booked time.

If the film runs long and the next slot is free, you can stay on for a small extra charge, about Rs 200 to 300 depending on the room. Ask at reception rather than assuming it is available.

What a dinner and movie date costs

For two people, with restaurant costs approximate:

• Truffles for two at about Rs 1,200, then DREAM at Rs 1,748: about Rs 2,950, before anything you order in the room.
• Chianti for two at about Rs 2,300, then CINEPOD PRO at Rs 1,397: about Rs 3,700.
• A cake from the bakery, then CINEPOD at Rs 1,097 with food ordered from our kitchen: the cheapest version of the night.

Split two ways, CINEPOD comes to about Rs 549 each for three hours and DREAM to about Rs 874 each.
